2004 Dodge Dakota Cigarette Lighter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service the Cigarette Lighter Power Outlet on 2004 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before you handle the auxiliary cigarette lighter, you should first unhook and set aside the negative battery cable so the air bags won't deploy accidentally. Take out the lower bezel from the instrument panel. For the cigarette lighter, just pull the element and knob up out of the stand or unsnap the protective cap from the cigarette lighter base. Examine the placement of the two rectangular bosses keeping the receptacle base fastened to the lower bezel of the instrument panel. Collapse the tips of your external pliers on the retaining bosses, then squeeze them to remove the tips. Act with care and slowly tilt the pliers sideways to release the receptacle. Take the cigarette lighter mount off the lower bezel of the instrument panel. Slide the mount back into the lower bezel, make sure the splines from the receptacle base fit into the grooves in your mount, push firmly to secure them until the engaging pieces are in place. Set the knob and element or cap back into place on the base, then place the lower bezel on the instrument panel and secure it once again to the battery negative cable.
