2003 Dodge Dakota Cigarette Lighter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service the Rear Cigarette Lighter Outlet on 2003 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before beginning work on the rear cigarette lighter, cut off the battery negative cable from its connection. Remove the lower bezel of the instrument panel and then pull the knob and cigar lighter out from inside the base or unhook the protective cap from the cigarette lighter receptacle base. Note the location of the rectangular retaining bosses in the receptacle base where they attach the receptacle to the instrument panel lower bezel. Squeeze the external snap ring pliers onto the snap rings on the bosses to release them and use a slight backward motion to take the receptacle base out of the mount. Take out the cigar lighter or cigarette lighter mount from the instrument panel lower bezel. To set up, return the container to the lower part of the instrument panel and fit the splines on the connector onto the grooves of the mounting plastic. Compress them slowly so that retaining bosses fully lock in to each section. Place the cigar lighter knob or protective cap into its original well and the element or cap in the receptacle underneath the bezel. Put the lower bezel back in place and attach the negative cable to the battery.
