2004 Dodge Grand Caravan Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair a Power Steering Pump on 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: The repair or servicing of a power steering pump should begin with removal of the negative battery cable and isolating it. Take out the wiper module and lift the car. Unclip the pressure hose bracket and remove the drive belt splash shield. When those are off, lower the vehicle. Take off the cap from the reservoir and use a siphon pump to move out all the fluid you can. Remove the pressure hose and fluid supply hose from the pump, after which you can remove the three bolts through the pulley and slide out the pump and pulley assembly, rocking it over the aluminum bracket. Whipsaw the removal process and put the pump back on its bracket, securing it using the front bolts tightened to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Inspect the O-ring on the hose before installing it to ensure there is no damage and replace it if anything is wrong. Join the pressure line to the upper part of the pump and only hand-tighten the hose nut, then attach the supply hose while making sure the hose clamp is correctly fitted. Raise the car to fit the pressure hose routing clip and secure it with a fastener, fixed again. After that, install the serpentine drive belt and the splash shield for that belt, then lower the car. Tighten the pressure line to the pump pressure fitting tube nut to 31 Nm (275 in. lbs.), slip the wiper module into place, link the negative battery cable and bleed the power steering system by following the Power Steering Pump Initial Operation Procedure. The last step is to look for any leaks you might find.
