2004 Dodge Grand Caravan Power Steering Hose Parts and Q&A
- Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Hose for Return Hose on 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan?A: Service and repair the power steering return hose by first taking the cap off the power steering fluid reservoir and using a siphon pump to draw out as much fluid as you can. Put an oil drain pan under the car and remove the clamp holding the return hose to the reservoir, then untie the hose. After following the hose down to the ABS bracket, release the retainer and remove the hose tube from it. Lift the vehicle and take out the front emissions vapor canister. Removing the bolt that keeps the return hose routing clamp attached to the suspension cradle crossmember and the two bolts linking the power steering cooler to the crossmember reinforcement comes next. Take off the return hose at the power steering gear and remove the power steering return hose with cooler that's attached to the car. Remove the O-rings from the power steering hose, wipe both ends and the port of the power steering gear with a lint-free towel. Fit a new O-ring at the gear port end of the power steering hose, lubricate it with clean fluid. Be careful not to bend the tube ends during fitting, as this may create leaks or blockages and keep the hoses clear from the exhaust and any dangerous surfaces. Attach the other end of the hose carrying the cooler to the reservoir, position the hose away from sharp bends and start the steering side of the hose into the gear port without tightening the hose tube at this time. Rout the suspension hoses to the suspension cradle crossmember using the routing clamp and bolt and fasten with a clamp bolt tightened to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.). Attach the cooler to the lower suspension crossmember using the mounting bolts secured to a torque of 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.). Torque the hose tube nut at the power steering gear port to 31 Nm (275 in. lbs.), fit the front emissions vapor canister, drop the vehicle and place the return hose tube in the retainer on the ABS bracket. Then, attach the return hose to the reservoir and set the hose clamp just past the bead on the reservoir fitting, fill the power steering unit, bleed out the air and check for leaks.
