2004 Dodge Intrepid Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Initiate the Operation of a Power Steering Pump on 2004 Dodge Intrepid?
A: Make sure the power steering pump is started as the engine is switched off, check the fluid and only fill with Mopar Power Steering Fluid, not automatic transmission fluid. Make sure to clean the reservoir and filler cap, look inside the reservoir and check that the fluid level stays between MAX. On a COLD day, people serve MIN. COLD at a normal ambient temperature of about 90 - 110 °F. Add fluid until the reservoir is full and then let the fluid stand for at least two minutes. Start the car and run it for several seconds before switching it off. Should this be needed, add extra fluid and wait for engine operation to check if you need any more. Chock the back wheels, put the car in neutral or Park and slowly turn the steering wheel back and forth, stopping it in each direction for just a moment, using power steering fluid while steering. Bring the suspension as low as it will go, turn the wheel all the way and slowly back again, then check the fluid in the engine and refill it as needed. If the fluid is very bubbly, wait some time and perform the procedure once again before you lower the car.
