2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Heater Core Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Heater Core on 2004 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: To work on and repair the heater core, cut off power to the air bag system by unhooking the black lead (negative) battery cable and waiting two minutes before you start, so that the capacitor nothing bad can happen and injury is prevented during work. Heater core removal can be carried out without removing the HVAC panel. Take out the HVAC housing in the first step. After that, remove the foam seal from the heater core tubes. Unlink the rod that goes to each actuator lever in order to gain access to the heater core with a Dual Zone system. Unscrew both of the screws attaching the heater core tube bracket to the HVAC housing and then remove the bracket. Pull out the heater core, check each foam seal and repair or replace them when necessary. Replace the heater core inside the HVAC part and hold the bracket over the tube at its proper location on the house. Use a Nm screwdriver to tighten the two screws in the bracket to the claimed torque. With a Dual Zone vehicle, connect the linkage rod back to the actuator levers. After that, seal the heater core tubes with foam and place the HVAC housing on top of them.
