2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Wheel Cover Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install Wheel Covers on 2004 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: First, get rid of the hub caps, only then should you raise the vehicle for more space to release the wheel covers. Apply pressure around the whole tire using the flat end of your hub/cap remover/installer. Then, with short, repeated movements, ease the wheel skin off the rim. With a Single Rear Wheel model, just slide the metal blade underneath and push up to remove the gas cap. For 3500 Dual Rear Wheel models, push the pry off tool into the notch and pull out the hub cap firmly. Take the skins off the rims after the hub caps are taken off. Each rear inner wheel should have a 1 1/2 inch valve stem extension added to it, attached with a 3/8 inch drive 10 mm deep wheel socket and a 10 inch or longer extension to remove the current valve stem cap. Afterward, put a 1 inch valve stem extension onto each of the outer wheels. Place the cooling windows of the wheel skin in the same positions as the wheel's cooling windows, fit one edge of the retainer against the edge of the wheel and strike the wheel skin all around with a mallet to ensure a consistent spacing. Use your fingers to pull on the wheel's skin slightly to test how the hub or cap has been installed. For the front placement, match the valve stem against the notch on the wheel skin, pull the retainer wire onto one side, strike the other end with a rubber mallet until it seats well and look for the same gap between the wheel and skin, before giving the hub cap or wheel skin a little tug to check how it was installed.
