How to Service an Axle Shaft on a 10 1/2 American Axle on 2004 Dodge Ram 2500?

Always start by unfastening the bolts on the flange nearest the axle boot to service the rear axle with a 10 1/2 American Axle. Slide out the axle shaft from within the axle tube and remove its gasket. Whether you replace them or put Lock N' Seal or Loctite 242 on the axle flange bolts after cleaning, make sure they are sealed. Clean the flange and hub, afterward put in a fresh axle shaft gasket. Put the axle shaft back into the axle tube, then add and tighten the axle shaft flange bolts to 129 Nm (95 ft. lbs.).
