2004 Dodge Ram 2500 Power Steering Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Repair a Power Steering Hose on 2004 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: The process starts with removing all of the power steering fluid by draining it and siphoning out any remaining fluid. For the hose coming from the gear to the cooler, lift and raise the vehicle, then unhook the hose from the cooler and at the gear. Take the hose off the clamp at the fan shroud and carry it out of the car. Again drain and siphon through the pressure hose, raise the vehicle and remove it from the pump and the gear, disconnecting it as you remove. Drain and siphon the power steering system, detach the return hose from the reservoir, lift and support the car, unplug the return hose at the clamp for the fan shroud and then take it off between the fan shroud and cooler. After connecting the hose at the gear and at the cooler, tighten it to 71 Nm (52 ft. lbs.), slide it onto the routing clip at the fan shroud, remove its support, lower the vehicle and add power steering fluid. During installation, avoid bringing the pressure hose into contact with the fan shroud or frame rail, fit the hose, tighten it to 32 Nm (23 ft. lbs.) at the gear and 36 Nm (27 ft. lbs.) at the pump and remove the support. After that, lower the vehicle and add fluid to the power steering system. For the hose leading from the reservoir to the cooler, assemble it, attach the other end at the cooler, rejoin it to the routing clip at the fan shroud and remove the support, drop the vehicle back down and reattach it to the reservoir.
