2004 Dodge Ram 2500 Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair a Power Steering Pump on 2004 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: Begin the job of servicing and repairing the power steering pump by emptying and siphoning the fluid, then take off the serpentine belt. You should never pull off the fitting on the pump for the high-pressure hose without using a second wrench to hold it, as it can loosen and have to be tightened again to 57 - 67 Nm (40 - 50 ft. lbs.). Should your fitting slip off from the body, the pump cannot be salvaged because its pieces will fall inside. After that, separate the return and pressure hoses, move the pulley aside and undo the three bolts securing the pump to the cylinder head. Take the pump bracket off the block, remove all 6 bolts holding the intake plenum and release the clamp around the cooler tube on the intake plenum to get it off. Relax the clamp at the radiator side that holds the inner cooler tube and remove the tube from your vehicle. Following that, gently lift out the power steering pump from the top of the engine. Place the power steering pump at the top of the engine compartment, put in the inner cooler tube and secure the inner cooler tube clamp on the radiator support side. Attach all 6 intake plenum bolts and tighten the clamp of the inner cooler tube. Pass the 3 bolts for the pump mounts through the pulley access holes, securing each at 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). After that, tighten the pump bracket to the block. After that, resume the pressure line, bring the hose back to the pump and reservoir, tighten the line to 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.), slot the serpentine drive belt and add the liquid needed for the power steering pump.
