2004 Dodge Ram 3500 Drive Shaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair the Drive Shaft on 2004 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: To fix or service the rear propeller shaft, first change the transmission to Neutral and lift the vehicle so it is supported. Put a line across the companion flange of the pinion and propeller shafts and if the engine is equipped, describe a line on the center bearing in the crossmember to help with installation. Take out the center bearing mounting nuts if they exist, then pull out the bolts holding on to the pinion yoke companion flange. Before you can take off the propeller shaft, remove the slip yoke from the transmission or transfer case output shaft. You should slide the slip yoke onto the output shaft, place the center bearing on the crossmember if needed and tighten the nuts to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) during installation. Arrange the reference marks matching the shaft yoke and the companion flange and then secure the pinsion flange bolts to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.).
