2004 Jeep Wrangler Differential Cover Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain the Differential Cover on the Front Axle - 216FBI on 2004 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Place the vehicle on a hoist in neutral and remove the drain plug before updating the Front Axle - 216FBI differential cover. Unplug the indicator switch wiring and pull off the connector from the differential cover, then use a wrench to take out the bolts holding the cover and remove it so liquid can flow out into a container below the vehicle. When installing, use 1/4 inch Mopar Silicone Rubber Sealant or a similar product around the housing cover so that if it is not put on in the next 3 to 5 minutes, it is cleaned and a new bead of RTV is applied to protect it. Install next the screen cover, identification tag and indicator switch connector, applying 41 Nm (30 ft. pounds) to all the bolts by crisscrossing their tightening. Once again, link the indicator switch harness, bring the differential up to the right fill level and fit the plug, tightening it with 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.) of torque.
