2005 Chrysler Crossfire CV Boot Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a CV Boot on the Front Inner Constant Velocity Joint on 2005 Chrysler Crossfire?
A: If your front inner C/V boot needs replacing, start by pulling off the halfshaft from the vehicle and then remove the inner clamp 1 and the outer clamp 2 from the C/V joints. Hold the axle halfshaft in a vise with caps and then take off the C/V boot from the inside of the joint housing and move it down the halfshaft. Clean the area so you can see the inside, then hit the C/V joint housing with your hammer to make it slide off the halfshaft and the joint slides away from the axle shaft. Take a close look at the inner C/V joint assembly to ensure it is not worn out too much. When installing, look for signs of wear and damage in the C/V joint and replace it if it is worn or pitted, then remove devils from the axle shaft splines. Make sure the shaft splines on both assembly and axle halfshaft are lined up, then guide the new C/V boot onto the axle halfshaft, putting the assembly against the circlip while seating it carefully. Make sure the outer shiny part of the C/V joint is pushed into the lower A-frame by soft-faced hammering the nut end of the stub axle. Fill the outer C/V joint cavity with half the grease and use the other half to fill the C/V boot, so its raised bead fits inside the groove on the axle halfshaft. Secure the outer end of the C/V boot to sealing groove 1 of the C/V joint housing and put the other end in the sealing groove of the axle halfshaft. Insert the inner C/V boot retaining clamp and the outer C/V boot retaining clamp into the grooves and then use the crimping tool to fully close and crimp the new clamp. Don't forget to put the halfshaft back in the vehicle.
