2006 Chrysler Crossfire CV Boot Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Outer CV Boot on 2006 Chrysler Crossfire?
A: Pull the halfshaft from the car, then remove the outer C/V boot retaining clamp (2) from the halfshaft on the axle and the inner C/V boot retaining clamp (1) from the C/V joint housing. Hold the axle halfshaft in a vise with caps and then take the C/V boot off the outer C/V joint and slide it down the axle. Work inside the C/V joint area to reveal the joint and halfshaft and then hammer the housing to make it release from the circlip on the axle shaft and move the outer joint away from the differential housing. Visually examine the outside of the C/V joint assembly for major wear and remove any dirt or debris from the splines on the axle shaft. To keep the axle shaft's splines safe, cover them with a cloth, then place the new boot on the axle halfshaft and line them up with the C/V joint. Put the outer C/V joint assembly onto the axle halfshaft and gently tap it into place with a soft-faced hammer until it reaches the back end of the circlip. Use all the grease found in the C/V boot service kit, filling half in the outer joint cavity and the other half into the boot. With the raised bead on the boot in the groove of the axle halfshaft, mount its outer end into the sealing groove on the C/V joint housing and its inner end into the same groove on the axle halfshaft. Set the inner C/V boot retaining clamp (1) and the outer C/V boot retaining clamp (2) into the grooves, after which use a crimping tool to close the jaws properly over the new C/V boot retaining clamp (3). Afterward, secure the halfshaft into place on the vehicle.
