2005 Chrysler Pacifica Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Initiate the Operation of a Power Steering Pump on 2005 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: Normally, power steering pumps are not operated until the engine is powered off, to avoid any accident with the pump's moving parts. For the best results, apply Mopar Atf+4 Automatic Transmission Fluid (Ms-9602) in the power steering system and avoid other Mopar fluids (Ms5931 and Ms9933). Supply the container only three-fourths at a time. While the temperature is between 70°F and 80°F, open the side of the power steering fluid reservoir and check that the fluid is inside the "Fill Range." Before you lift off the filler cap, clean the area around it and make sure the reservoir is at the correct fluid level, then allow the car to settle for two minutes. Run the engine for a little while before shutting it off. If you need to, top up the oil, wait a while and run the engine again until there are no more oil spills. Remove the front wheels from the ground, start the car and gently move the steering wheel right and left, touching the wheel stops as needed to keep adding fluid. Drop the vehicle and turn the steering wheel gradually from one end to the next, then shut the engine and see if you need to refill the fluid. Should the foam be very dense, let the vehicle sit without spinning for a few minutes and then test again.
