2005 Chrysler Town & Country Brake Caliper Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Front Brake Caliper on 2005 Chrysler Town & Country?
A: First, push the brake pedal only one inch, use a depressor to hold it down and then the master cylinder will be isolated from the brake hydraulic system. Raise the car, take out the front wheel and its tire with it. Pull out the banjo bolt and, along with it, two washers so you can remove the brake hose from the caliper. After that, take out the two caliper guide pin bolts and separate the brake caliper from the adapter. Remove each guide pillar bushing by pulling them out once you've collapsed them in one spot for each side and inspected the caliper. To remove the piston, make sure the caliper assembly is away from the rotor, then slide a small bit of wood under the piston and the caliper fingers and press slowly on the brake pedal to push the piston out. Treat the brake flex hose as described and firmly secure the caliper in a protected vise. Take out the piston dust boot and then use a soft tool to get the seal out of the caliper bore, clear the dirt from the bore and look for any damage. Assemble the guide pin bushing by folding it and inserting it into the caliper mounting boss. Let go of the bushing so it seats into the boss and wipe the surfaces inside with lubricant. Apply some fresh brake fluid to a new seal, set a new piston boot lubricated with brake fluid above the piston and screw the piston into the caliper bore. Place Special Tool C-4689 or C-4842 if needed, in the receptacle before driving the boot into the counterbore using Handle C-4171. During installation, remove the piston far from the rotor, set the caliper over the rotor and the adapter and tighten the guide pin bolts to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.). Connect the brake hose with new copper washers and tighten it with the anti-rattle clip. Turn the banjo bolt to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). Fit the tire and wheel assembly back, finalizing the nuts at 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.), raise the car, remove the brake pedal depressor, bleed the hydraulic brake system and do a road test to confirm everything works.
