Q: How to Service and Repair a Parking Brake Cable for Front on 2005 Chrysler Town & Country?
A: Raise and support the vehicle, then work the system handle backwards to release the automatic adjustment for the parking brake lever assembly. Unfasten the rear and right park brake cable from the equalizer with a 16 mm box wrench or an aircraft type hose clamp and screwdriver, then the front cable retainer outrigger bracket from the body with a 14 mm box wrench. Take the vehicle down on the lift and once that's done, slide out the left front door sill mold and left front kick panel to access the park brake cable and pedal assembly. Lift the mat back to see the park brake cable, grab the seal and pull it out together with the cable from the floor pan. Pull the button out of the clevis, take the cable housing out of the pedal assembly bracket, remove the cable retainer from the housing on the parking brake lever and pull the front parking brake cable from your car. When using fold-in-floor seating, release the brakes, lift and support the vehicle and free the automatic self-adjusting mechanism tension. Removed the front cable from the equalizer and routing clips and draw back on the locking pliers already installed to let go of the front cable. Put the 12-point 13 mm box wrench on the fingers at the intermediate bracket and press to release them. Then, grab the cable and slide in upwards to take it out. Take the vehicle down, eliminate the left front door sill molding and kick panel, disconnect the lever assembly reel end button, withdraw the cable from the bracket, lift the carpet towards the firewall and grab the cable seal at the floor pan opening as you remove the front parking brake cable. Start by pushing the front parking brake cable assembly up through the hole in the floor pan, put it in the lever assembly bracket and add the cable retainer to the pedal assembly bracket. Fit the other end of the park brake cable into the retainer, insert the cable strand button into the clevis on the park brake pedal and check that the floor pan seal is seated before lowering the carpeting. Elevate the vehicle a second time, feed the brake cable and housing into the outrigger bracket on the body and reset the automatic tension control by hand. Get the park brake cables onto the cable equalizer, lower down the vehicle and press the pedal once to seat the cables. For installing fold-in-floor seating, most of the cable assembly from the front brake lever goes through the floor, you button the cable end to its lever and you put the cable housing in its retainer. Place the floor pan seal evenly, lay the carpet back in place and set the left front kick panel and door sill molding again. Hold the vehicle up, pass the cable through the intermediate bracket and press the retainer of the cable housing into place. Slide the front cable into the routing clips, hold the front strand with locking pliers, push back on the button and put the equalizer on all parking brake cables. After you take off the locking pliers, let the automatic self-adjustment handle the slack and then drive the car lower. Apply the park brake pedal just once after that to properly seat the cables.
