2005 Dodge Caravan Drive Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair the Drive Belt for the A/C Compressor/Generator on 2005 Dodge Caravan?
A: You need to raise your vehicle using a hoist and next remove the drive belt shield to access the belt. Don't let the drive belt tensioner snapping back, as it might harm you or the vehicle. After putting a wrench on the belt tensioner lug, turn the tensioner counterclockwise to release the tension before taking off the belt. As soon as the belt is removed, position the tensioner just as it was before. Above the wheels, take off the locking nuts (D) and (F) and below, remove the pivot bolt (E) and the adjusting bolt (G), until the belt can be taken out. Take away any foreign buildup from the belt pulley, being sure the oil, grease and coolant are all removed before placing the belt. You should change out the belt when it is very worn, its cords are damaged or the glazing is severe, but small cracks across the ribbed side are regular for Poly-V Belts. Avoid putting any belt dressing or restorer on Poly-V Belts. To get the belt in place, move it over all pulleys except the crankshaft, then tighten the belt tensioner to install the belt on the crankshaft pulley and release it bit by bit. Make certain the belt is correctly guided and fitted to each pulley before closing the shield and taking the vehicle down. Attach the belt over the pulleys on the crankshaft and power steering pump, apply a starter snug torque to bolts (E) and (F), then gradually tighten bolt (G) until the belt tension suits the machine. Secure all bolts by turning locking nuts (D) and (F) to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) and the pivot bolt (E) to the same measurement.
