2006 Dodge Caravan Drive Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Drive Belt on 2006 Dodge Caravan?
A: The process starts with lifting the vehicle and removing the cover that holds the drive belt. This component should be carefully removed so that it does not snap back which might result in injury or harm to the car. With the wrench, rotate the belt tensioner lug counterclockwise to release the belt, remove the belt and return the tensioner to its natural state. Loose the locking nuts on top and loosen the pivot bolt from under the vehicle. After that, loosen the adjusting bolt until the belt comes off easily. Get rid of all dirt and fluids in the belt pulley grooves before you install the drive belt. A new belt should be put in place if it is too worn, has frayed cords or is severely glazed, but some light cracks across the ribs are acceptable. Never apply a dressing or restorer to a Poly-V Belt. To install, put the air conditioning belt and generator on every pulley except the crankshaft, turn the belt tensioner clockwise to attach the belt to the crankshaft pulley, verify it fits and is in place on all pulleys and cover those pulleys with the belt shield before bringing the vehicle back down again. Apply the belt over both the crankshaft and power steering pump pulleys, initially tighten the pivot bolt and front locking nut, tighten the adjusting bolt to give the belt proper tension and finally seal all the pulleys to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). For the belt accessories to operate correctly, the belt must be tightened properly. Special Tool 7198 should be used to make adjustments once the drive belts have been raised and the splash shield removed if required.
