2005 Dodge Dakota Hood Hinge Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a Hood Hinge Without Removing the Hood on 2005 Dodge Dakota?
A: One or two worn hood hinges can be swapped out without removing the hood; only the hinges need to be accessed. Open the hood and stand on the side that will get the hinge change. Draw the spots for attaching bolts and hinges onto the door, so you can find them again during the installation. Take out the support cylinder from the upper hinge of the door. Then, unscrew the nuts that connect the hinge to the hood and inside the engine bay, pull out the two hinge bolts. Glide the hinge away from the body of the vehicle and lift it off the rail. Put the new hinge onto the fender rail, changing the hinge position as needed to line up with the marks. Put in the two hinge bolts from within the engine bay. Tighten the rear one to 20 N.m and the front one to 20 N.m. Next, attach nuts to the hinge on the hood and tighten them to 23 N.m. After that, put back the support cylinder and review the fit of the hood before settling any adjustments required.
