2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Catalytic Converter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Catalytic Converter on a 3.7L/4.7L Engine on 2005 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: You should first lift and support the 3.7L/4.7L car before working on its catalytic converter. Apply heat valve lubricant to the bolts and nuts and leave them alone for about 5 minutes. After pulling the electrical connectors off the oxygen sensor, take out clamps 3 and 5 and the nuts. After that, remove the two bolts connecting the LH catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold and then take out the converter. Do the same thing for the RH catalytic converter, loosening the two bolts connecting it to the exhaust manifold and then removing the RH unit. Insert the RH catalytic converter into the exhaust pipe and tighten it using exhaust clamp 4 before hand tightening the bolts to the exhaust manifold. Secure the LH catalytic converter to the RH catalytic converter with clamp 6 so that it is positioned correctly. Secure all of the bolts on the LH catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold by hand and tighten them to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.), along with the clamp nuts to 52.2 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Inspect the exhaust and make sure it has a clearance of at least 25.4 mm (1.0 inch) from body panels; carry out adjustments if not enough room is found. When everything is ready, drive the vehicle down and turn on the engine. Check the area around all the exhaust pipes for any leaks and do necessary repairs.
