2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Steering Knuckle on 2005 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Begin your steering knuckle service by taking out the hub bearing, then goal the tie-rod or drag link end from the steering knuckle arm. After that, remove the ABS wire and its bracket from the knuckle. Start by removing the cotter pin from the upper ball stud nut and after that remove the upper and lower ball stud nuts. Tap the steering knuckle with a brass hammer until it becomes loose and take it off the axle tube yokes. During installation, attach the steering knuckle to the ball studs and tighten the lower ball stud nut to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). Do not install the cotter pin at this stage. Fasten the upper ball stud nut to 94 Nm (70 ft. lbs.), position the nut one slot further so the hole is straight and put in a new cotter pin. Torque the stud nut below the lower ball to 190 - 217 Nm (140 - 160 lb.-ft.). Advance the stud nut so its hole aligns, insert a fresh cotter pin and tighten the nut using the same torque. Next, put back the hub bearing, join the tie-rod or drag link end to the steering knuckle arm and link the ABS sensor wire and bracket together with the knuckle.
