A: First, remove the tire and wheel assembly and below that, remove the brake caliper and rotor. Weld the tie rod to the steering knuckle and then remove the lower ball joint nut tilting the vehicle downwards. Then, separate the lower ball joint from the knuckle using tool number 8677. Shift the halfshaft aside and hold it so it won't fall if your car is equipped. On HD 4X2 models, discard the snap ring from the bottom of the control arm assembly. To increase the life of the tool and for it to function properly during installation and removal, cover the threaded sections with explicit pressured lubrication. Press the ball joint on the lower control arm with the special tools C-4212-F, 8698-2 and 8698-3. During installation, fit the ball joint to the control arm and push it into place with tools C-4212-F, 8698-1 and 8698-3. Cover the ball joint with its boot and position the flange over the ball joint staking locations around the flange by drilling and driving using a chisel and hammer on LD models. Install the snap ring for HD 4X2 models, unclip the support for the halfshaft and if it is present, clip it in again after. Afterward, insert the steering knuckle and tie rod end into their holding spots in the steering knuckle. Tighten the halfshaft nut to 251 Nm (185 ft. lbs.) if fitted; after that, set in the brake caliper and rotor and then reshoulding the tire and wheel assembly. verified the car's height and corrected the wheel alignment.
