2005 Dodge Ram 2500 Wheel Bearing Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair Wheel Bearings on a Rear Axle (10 1/2 AA) on 2005 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: First, loosen and remove the bolts holding the flange on (10 1/2 AA) and then carefully slide out the axle shaft after it is free from the bolts. Then, open the retainer ring on the axle shaft tube and remove the hub bearing nut locking key. Apply Socket 8954 to remove the hub bearing nut and afterward take the hub and bearings off the axle. Remove the hub bearing seal from the hub and make sure the inside part stays on the axle tube so you can pry it out as well. Go on to drop out the rear bearing and the hub bearing cups with a hammer and drift. To install, begin with the outer hub bearing cup using Installer 8961 and Handle C-4171, next use Installer 8962 and Handle C-4171 for the inner hub bearing cup. Pack each bearing with grease, set the rear bearing in place and insert the new grease seal using the Installer 8963 and C-4171 handle. After that, slide the hub onto the axle tube and place the front bearing into it. Tighten the hub bearing nut to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.) while rotating the hub using Socket 8954. Loosen the nut a little until the next hub nut key hole is opposite the keyhole on the axle. By using the locking key, make sure the end play amounts to 0.025 - 0.25 mm (0.001 - 0.010 inch). In the end, insert the retainer ring into the key so it sits in the ring end, add a gasket to the axle shaft and reattach it through the retainer ring.
