2005 Dodge Ram 2500 Radiator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install a Radiator in a 5.9L Diesel Engine on 2005 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: You should remove the negative terminals from the battery and check that the engine is cool so coolant does not hurt you. While wearing safety glasses, use only the right tools for the job such as special clamp tool 6094, to drain the cooling system of constant tension hose clamps. When you need to replace constant tension clamps, make sure the replacements match the original ones, using numbers or letter codes. Then, take out the air box and turbocharger inlet tube, coolant tank hose, washer bottle hose and the positive battery cable attached to the radiator's clips. After removing the hose clamps and hoses from the radiator, remove the nuts for the shroud and gently pull the shroud so it comes free from the mounting brackets at the front. Rotate the shroud slightly and move it closer to the engine so it doesn't touch the radiator. Take out the power steering cooler bolts, position it away and separate the transmission cooler lines at the cooler, ensure it stays connected to the radiator. Take out the two upper radiator mounting bolts, tilt the radiator toward the car's front and lift it from the compartment while watching not to damage any parts. To clean the radiator, blast the back of it with water and air while it is cool to get off any dust or dirt. Look for cracks or broken fittings in the radiator side tanks, check any leaks at the seams and check the core for corroded or bent cooling fins and tubes. For mounting, slide the rubber blocks onto the lower dowels and place them into the holes on the radiator's bases, lower the radiator into its spot and guide the dowels into the support, followed by attaching the top bolts and installing them mi3ghtily. Join the radiator hoses and secure them with clamps as you also install the transmission cooler lines by connecting their quick fittings in a clean manner and ensuring there is a "click." First attach the power steering cooler to the radiator and tighten the mounting nuts to 10 Nm (90 inch lbs.). Then, fit the fan shroud to the brackets and tighten its mounting nut to 24 Nm (18 lb-ft.). Set the coolant recovery container on top, connect the hose to the coolant recovery tank, washer bottle, connect the positive battery cable to the clamps on top of the radiator and install the air box and turbocharger hose, tightening all clamps to 4 Nm (35 inch lbs.). Push the heater setting to its highest level, add coolant to your car's cooling system, run the engine up to normal operating temperature and check both your coolant and transmission fluid levels while driving.
