2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Radiator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Install a Radiator in a 3.7L/4.7L/5.7L Engine on 2006 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: Before taking out the radiator, turn off the negative battery cables, drain the coolant and be sure not to touch the drain plug or loose the draincock on the radiator when the cooling system is still pressurized. When handling constant tension hose clamps, have tools ready for hose service and keep safety glasses on. After removing the clamps and hoses from the radiator, disconnect the coolant tank hose from the radiator's filler neck and gently lift the tank up from the fan shroud. Open the steering hoses from the fan shroud, detach the wires at the windshield washer reservoir tank and pull the tank out. Unfasten the bolts that hold the shroud to the fan, lift it out of the radiator tank clips and put it over the back of the fan blades. Unhook the lines from the transmission and power steering, capping each to limit leaks, then unbolt the radiator's two upper mounts and raise the radiator straight up out of the engine compartment without damaging the fins or tubes. If there is debris on the radiator fins, rinse them with cold water and use compressed air and look on the sides for any cracks and in the core for corroded or bent fins and tubes. To install the system, place the fan shroud over the fan blades, add the rubber insulators to where the lower radiator mounts, guide the radiator into place letting the alignment dowel fit into the vertical bracket and secure the lower radiator support bracket to the lower closure tube. Fasten the top radiator mounting bolts to 10 Nm (90 inch lbs.), connect the lower radiator hose and tighten its clamp and attach the power steering hoses and clamps. Connect the transmission oil cooler lines, then use bolts to tighten the fan shroud into the mounting clips on the tanks at 8 Nm (75 inch lbs.). After that, attach the power steering hoses, add and hose the windshield washer reservoir tank and join the coolant reserve/overflow container hose(s) to the radiator filler neck using clamps. Afterward, set the coolant reserve/overflow container into place on the fan shroud, tighten its bolts to 8 Nm (75 inch lbs.), attach the upper radiator hose and make sure it is clamped, reconnect the battery negative cable, fill with coolant, start the engine up until its temperature is normal and check the fluid levels.
