2005 Dodge Ram 3500 Battery Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair the Right-Side Diesel Engine's Positive Battery Cable on 2005 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: For repairs, switch the ignition switch to Off and make sure every electrical tool is off prior to beginning. Cut the battery negative cable connections from their clamps at terminals 1 and 9. Break the right cable loose from the grasp of the left clamp 5 by sliding out the nut 8 and pull the right cable terminal 6 free. Take the battery cable away from the vehicle by removing the fastener clips by the battery 11 and bringing out the right battery positive terminal cable 13. With the terminal dirt shield 1 lifted, remove the bolt 7 that connects the alternator cable 2 and free all battery cable retaining clips, pushpins and fasteners until the cable is ready to be taken out. When putting in the battery, attach the positive side of the right battery cable 13 to the plug in the vehicle and lock the battery cable fastener clips 11 in place. Hook the positive cable terminal 6 on the right battery to clamp 5 on the left battery and tighten it with nut 8. Join positive cable clamp 13 to the corresponding alternator post, remove terminal cover 1 and clamp cable 2 to post 3 and secure with nut 7 so the cover closes and locks onto the alternator. Reconnect both negative cable terminal clamps 1 and 9 and perform a normal test drive.
