2005 Dodge Ram 3500 Engine Control Module Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Remove and Install an Engine Control Module on 2005 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: Attached to the ECM bracket close to the fuel filter, using vibration isolators and four capscrews, is the fuel filter. Also, a ground wire is fastened to both the bracket and the engine block. Start by reading out any DTC's in the ECM to identify the problem. Before you disconnect the ECM connectors, first shut the ignition key off and take off both negative battery cables. When the ECM bolts are out, take care to unplug all the connections attached to the 50-way and 60-way connector at the same time. Now, get rid of the five ECM mounting bolts and take the ECM out of the vehicle. During installation, secure the ECM on the support bracket and put in the five mounting bolts, tightening them so each has 24 N.m (18 ft.lbs.) of torque. Check for corrosion or damage in the pin connectors in the ECM and the 50-way and 60-way connectors and make necessary repairs. Cleans the pins in both types of connectors with an electrical cleaner, then securely bolt the connectors to the ECM using 3 N.m (27 in.lbs.) of torque. Place both negative battery cables back and run a scan, erasing any DTC's that may have appeared in the ECM.
