2005 Dodge Ram 3500 Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Shock Absorber on a 4X2 with Independent Front Suspension on 2005 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: First, support the vehicle with it raised and then place support under the outboard end of the lower control arm. Get rid of nut 1 in the top absorber, retainer 2 and grommet 3 and then undo both the lower nuts to take out the shock absorber. For the installation, check that the upper shock nut is installed properly or else coat the existing nut with Mopar Lock N' Seal or Loctite 242. Put the lower retainer and grommet on the shock absorber stud, then insert shock absorber 4 through the hole in the frame bracket. Twist the nuts at the bottom to a torque of 35 Nm (25 ft. lbs.) and then tighten grommet 3, retainer 2 and a new nut 1 or your existing nut with either Mopar Lock N' Seal or Loctite 242 to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). After that, take out the support from the outboard end of the lower control arm and lower the car.
