2005 Dodge Sprinter 3500 Seat Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Seat Belt and Retractor on 2005 Dodge Sprinter 3500?
A: The first step is to block the signal of the supplemental restraint system by removing and isolating the battery negative cable; leave the cable disconnected for about two minutes to allow the capacitor inside the mechanism to discharge. Check all seat belts, their buckles, mounts, retractors and anchors to see if they're properly installed and look for any damage. If you find any cuts, fraying or tears, change the belts; all attachments should be tight. When removing a front seat belt anchor, push the front seat all the way forward, unsnap the plastic cover from the screw, remove the screw and the anchor will also come out. Uninstall the B-pillar trim on the inside and, while inside the car, unlink the driver from the height adjuster. Next, bring the front seat belt and lower anchor through the holes in the trim, from the back. Take out the nut holding the seat belt turning loop to the height adjuster, then disconnect the wire harness connector for the seat belt tensioner from the retractor's initiator receptacle. Unscrew the back screw on the front seat belt retractor, located at the rear of the lower B-pillar and pull it out from the car. After placing the front seat belt and retractor near the B-pillar's lower end, slide the guide on the retractor to go into the notch and tighten its screw to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.). Put the wire harness connector of the seat belt tensioner back into place and make sure you hear a noticeable click when you fasten everything securely. Place the front seat belt loop on the seat height adjustment mechanism, tighten the nut to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.), direct the front seat belt and lower anchor down through the height adjuster trim and snap on the trim panel. Place the lower front anchor to the outside edge of your seat frame, tighten the screw at 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.) and fix the plastic cover onto the screw if one is available. Only reattach the negative battery cable after the SRSC test procedure is done.
