The front center seat belt and retractor unit should be serviced by turning off the supplemental restraint system. For this, unhook and isolate the battery's negative cable and then wait for the system capacitor to empty. Make sure to review the seat belts, buckles, mounting hardware, retractors, tether straps and anchors for accurate installment as well as damage; if any of the belts appear cut, frayed or torn, replace them; and make certain that all fasteners are tight. Should the center front seat belt or retractor be ineffective or damaged and the seat belt tensioner has not worked, follow the guidance for handling supplemental air bags that do not deploy. If you notice the tensioner has been deployed, check the post-deployment service process. Slot the front center seat belt and retractor so that the back part rests on the seat back frame and the front section remains on the seat back cover. Secure the vehicle wire harness connector for the seat belt tensioner onto the initiator receptacle of the retractor and make sure the latch and red lock are fully connected. Position the retractor on the back of the seat back frame and make sure the tab on the retractor matches the locating notch of the seat frame bar. Apply the appropriate pressure to the retractor screw which holds the retractor to the bracket, to get a final torque of 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.). The seat belt lower anchor, latch plate, trim bezel and webbing should all be threaded forward from the top of the seat back frame, without the webbing being twisted. Get the J-clips at the base and insert them into the slots of front and back panels inside the seat back trim cover. Then, put the seat belt trim bezel on the top of the seat back and fix it with a screw at the top of the seat frame bracket. Set the front center lower tieback in the anchor insert, check that the webbing isn't twisted and tighten the binding screw until the reading is 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.) on the torque wrench. Install the two-position front bench seat and don't hook up the battery negative cable until the system check for supplemental restraint systems has been done after fixing any restraint systems parts.
