2005 Dodge Stratus Automatic Transmission Shifter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix an Automatic Transmission Shifter in the 41TE Transaxle on 2005 Dodge Stratus?
A: At the start, detach the negative battery cable and put it aside so the mechanism does not receive current. Disconnect the range indicator lamp first, then remove the gearshift bezel, gearshift knob and gearshift set screw. After that, pull out the center console and unscrew part of the nut on the shift cable adjust lever. Work the pry tool inside the shifter combination to separate the shifter cable core end from the shift lever pin and lift up the cable clip to get the cable conduit out. To release the interlock cable adjuster end, stick a pointed instrument into the shift bracket and press the lock to pop it free, then unlink the interlock adjuster end from the gearshift mechanism bracket and remove the cable from the shifter assembly. If the vehicle has it, pull the Autostick connector to remove. Remove the five nuts under the shifter and take it out of your vehicle. When installing, put the shifter mechanism in and tighten the mechanism-to-floor pan nuts to 17 Nm (150 inch lbs.). First, mount the gearshift cable into the conduit bracket and onto the shift pin; then, fasten it to the cable with a retainer clip. Tighten the cable adjuster nut until it reads 23 Nm (200 inch lbs.), insert the interlock cable core wire into the lever groove and check that the interlock cable slug is at the bottom of the groove. Connect the bracket end of the interlock cable adjuster cord and, while holding it, adjust the gearshift and interlock cable. If your car has Autostick, attach the Autostick to Mobil 1 Synthetic. Now, put in the center console assembly, reconnect the range indicator lamp and set the gearshift bezel in place. After that, insert the gearshift knob and tension the set screw with 2 Nm (20 inch lbs.), then put back the negative battery cable.
