- Q: How to Maintain and Fix an Automatic Transmission Shifter in the 41TE Transaxle on 2006 Chrysler Sebring?A: The first thing you should do for service and repair is to disconnect the negative battery cable. Loosen and remove both parts of the gearshift knob set and the knob; then, get rid of the gearshift bezel and the range indicator lamp connector. Then, take off the center console assembly and loosen the nut on the gear shift cable adjust lever. Pull up the clip on the shifter bracket with a special flat blade tool, then work the cable end off the pin of the shift lever. Remove the cable from the bracket. Push a thin object into the shift bracket to disengage the lock, then take off the shifter/ignition interlock cable adjuster end by disconnecting it from the gearshift mechanism bracket and removing the cable core from the shifter assembly. If you have the ability, unplug the autostick connector and then remove the five nuts at the shifter assembly's base to remove it. Once in place, fasten the shifter mechanism again with nuts and turn them to 17 Nm. Insert the cable into the conduit bracket and onto the shift pin and snap on the retainer clip afterwards. Tighten the cable adjuster nut to 23 Nm, push the interlock cable core wire into the adjustment lever groove so that the slug is seated and snap the adjuster end into the bracket. Position and adjust the gearshift and interlock cables when needed. If your car has Autostick, hook up the Autostick connector and mount the center console. First, link the range indicator lamp and add the gearshift bezel, after that, connect the gearshift knob and tighten the set screw to 2 Nm. In the end, screw in the negative battery cable too.
