2006 Chrysler Town & Country Speed Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install a Rear Wheel Speed Sensor on 2006 Chrysler Town & Country?
A: Before pulling out the rear wheel speed sensor, lift the vehicle, then when disconnecting the speed sensor cable, watch that you do not damage the pins at the connectors. Detach the grommet out of the floor pan and disconnect the connector for the speed sensor from the harness. Carefully free the speed sensor cable from the routing clips so it doesn't damage them and if damaged please replace the brake hose, since these routing clips are molded to it. After that, take out the bolt holding the metal routing clip to the permanent magnet and remove the sensor cable from the clip. At the back of the wheel speed sensor head, eliminate the yellow secondary retaining clip and push up on the metal clip to detach the sensor from the hub and bearing. Holding the metal clip in place, pull back on the wheel sensor head, remove it from the hub and bearing and then disconnect the wheel speed sensor assembly from the car. During installation, be sure to place the cable where it is supported, so it does not touch any moving pieces or become too long which can open the circuit. Before putting the sensor O-ring in the hub and bearing, lubricate it only with Mopar Wheel Bearing Grease to ensure the seal works correctly. If the metal sensor retaining clip is not in the middle position, install it from the bottom and push it upward until it snaps. Put the index tab of the wheel speed sensor head into the top of the hole's notch and press it until it locks onto the metal clip inside the hole. Put on the secondary (yellow) retaining clip above the wheel speed sensor head, by snapping it into place on both sides. Run the sensor cable behind the leaf spring in line with the rear axle and fit the wire into the routing clips on the brake flex hose. Pass the cable through the metal routing clip and bolt it onto the rear axle, making sure the tightness is 16 Nm (140 inch lbs.). Attach the wheel speed sensor cable to the vehicle wiring harness so the connector is completely inside and locked. Secure the cable grommet to its hole in the floor pan, making sure it's all the way in, then lower the car on the test stand and take it for a test drive to verify both braking systems.
