2006 Dodge Caravan Timing Belt Tensioner Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Timing Belt Tensioner on 2006 Dodge Caravan?
A: You should first free the timing belt and the timing belt idler pulley to repair and service the timing belt tensioner and pulley. With Special Tool 6847 gripping the camshaft sprocket, remove the bolt and then take out both sprockets. Afterward, take out the rear timing belt cover fasteners and remove the cover from the engine. Detach the engineering keeping the timing belt on the pulley by removing the lower bolt and taking out the whole assembly. When putting in the timing belt, place the tensioner assembly near the engine and tighten the lower mounting bolt after alignment. Tensioner assembly adjustment involves inserting one of the engine mounting bolts (M10) 5 to 7 turns into the tensioner's top position. Loosen the upper bolt from the tensioner and tighten the lower bolt to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.) Make sure to remove the upper bolt. After that, place the rear timing belt cover together with its fasteners and secure the timing belt idler pulley, as you should tighten the bolts for the pulley to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Then, hold the camshaft sprockets in place with Tool 6847 and tighten the bolts to 101 Nm (75 ft. lbs.) and afterward install the timing belt.
