2006 Dodge Caravan Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2006 Dodge Caravan?
A: When replacing or repairing the seal on the crankshaft main bearing, take out the transaxle and flex plate before anything else. Place a 3/16 flat bladed screwdriver in the gap between the rubber dust lip and the metal seal housing of the crankshaft seal, gently forcing down the screwdriver with an angle through the dust lip. Make sure the blade is clear from the seal surface but can contact the chamfer of the crankshaft. Should you find burrs or scratches around the crankshaft, smooth them with 400 grit sandpaper prior to installing the new seal which needs no coating. Seat Special Tool 6926-1 Seal Guide on the crankshaft and set the seal above the guide tool so the lip of the seal is toward the crankcase. Don't push the seal into the block any further than flush because it might lead to an oil leak. Drill the seal into the block, using Special Tool 6926-2 and rotating handle C-4171 until the tool reaches its bottom. Once done, set the flex plate in place and fill and tighten the bolts with Mopar Lock & Seal Adhesive and 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.) of torque, then put the transaxle back.
