2006 Dodge Dakota Axle Shaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a 9 1/4 Axle Shaft on 2006 Dodge Dakota?
A: Place the car in neutral, lift it on a hoist and make sure the jack work is secure before starting the procedure. Disconnect the brake parts at the back and after that, take off the cover of the differential and drain the lubricant. Turn the differential case to reach the pinion mate shaft lock screw, take out the lock screw and then remove the pinion mate shaft. Available on iScout App - Before installing, rub the seal and bearing bore with gear lubricant and thread the axle shaft into both, always being careful not to harm the seal as you position it into the side gear splines. Install the C-lock into the axle shaft and as you press the shaft outward, seat it inside the hole in the side gear. Slide in the pinion shaft with the thrust washers and differential pinions through the hole in the differential case. Install the lock screw fitted with Loctite onto the threads and tighten it to 11 Nm. Afterward, attach the differential cover and pour gear lubricating material into it and finish by installing the rear brakes.
