2006 Dodge Durango Drive Belt Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Drive Belt for 3.7L, 4.7L, and 5.7L Engines on 2006 Dodge Durango?
A: For service of the drive belt on 3.7L, 4.7L and 5.7L engines, make sure to detach the negative battery cable first. Spin the belt tensioner so that it fits against the stop, remove the belt and then gradually bring it back to its unrestricted point. Ensure that all pulleys are okay and make sure the serpentine accessory drive belt is sitting properly, to prevent incorrect water pump rotation from leading to engine overheating. Put the pulleys together, but avoid the idler pulley and loop the belt through them. Turn the tensioner arm until you hear or feel it touch its stop and then put the belt around the idler pulley while the tensioner goes back behind it, settling on all pulleys. Following installation, you should check the belt wear indicator. If the space between the tang and housing stop is more than 24 mm (0.94 in.) for 4.7L engines, change the serpentine accessory drive belt.
