2006 Dodge Durango Water Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a Water Pump on 3.7L/4.7L Engines on 2006 Dodge Durango?
A: The engine timing chain case cover at the front of 3.7L/4.7L models covers the water pump. The first thing to do is disconnect the negative cable from the battery and drain the fluid from your cooling system. After that, lift the water pump out of the engine but leave the fan/viscous fan drive assembly attached to the vehicle. Be careful not to unbolt the fan assembly from the thermal viscous fan drive during your water pump swap. pry off the two radiator-side fan shroud-to-radiator screws, take away the coolant overflow hose, windshield washer fluid hose and washer pump electrical cable, then lift out the fan shroud and fan blade or viscous fan drive. Following removal, put the thermal viscous fan drive upright so that silicone fluid does not leak into the lubricant. Take off the belt from the accessory drive at the water pump pulley and next remove the lower hose clamp and hose at the water pump. Make sure not to pry at the water pump while removing the bolts. Take out the water pump and throw out the gasket. To install the water pump, clean both surfaces, slide the new gasket and pump into place and install the mounting bolts, tightening them firmly, but do not exceed 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.). Move the water pump so the pump impeller doesn't touch the timing chain case/cover, then attach the radiator lower hose to the pump and set up the accessory drive belt. Put the fan shroud in position and fit the fan blade/viscous fan drive assembly, putting in the two radiator screws at the same time. Be sure the tips of the fan blades are at least 25 mm (1.0 in.) away from the fan shroud. Slip the fan blade/viscous fan drive assembly onto the water pump shaft, fill the cooling system, reconnect the negative battery cable, start and warm the engine and check for any leaks.
