2006 Dodge Durango Starter Motor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install a Starter Motor in a 3.7L or 4.7L with Manual or Automatic Transmission on 2006 Dodge Durango?
A: When removing a 3.7L or 4.7L manual transmission vehicle's starter motor, first cut off the negative battery cable and after that, lift and secure the car. If you have 4WD and specific transmissions, remove the two bolts on the support bracket at the transmission and lift the bracket a bit to expose the lower starter mounting bolt. Unscrew one bolt and one nut from the seat mount. Move the starter motor so that the front part of the motor is just past its housing, but remember to support it underneath so it doesn't dangle off the wire harness. To remove the starter motor, tilt the nose downwards, position the starter motor lower, take out the nut (2) holding the battery eyelet to the solenoid stud and separate the battery positive cable wire harness connector (7) from the solenoid terminal connector receptacle. When you have an automatic transmission, begin by disconnecting the negative battery cable and lifting the vehicle as before. After taking out the bolts from the support bracket, remove the two bolts (3) and pull the starter motor (4) forward. Make sure to support it as you move it. Bring the nose of the car down and lower the starter motor to remove nut (2) which holds the positive battery cable to the solenoid battery terminal. After this, unplug eyelet (5) from the solenoid terminal receptacle and disconnect the positive cable eyelet (1) at the solenoid terminal. To install, link the solenoid wire to the starter motor, securely fit the battery cable to the solenoid stud and put the battery cable eyelet nut (2) in place without letting the starter motor weight hang from the wire harness. Place the starter motor against the transmission, add the lockwasher nut and bolt or the two bolts, lower the vehicle, attach the negative battery cable back and refit the aircraft.
