2006 Dodge Durango Alternator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix an Alternator on 2006 Dodge Durango?
A: You should first separate the negative battery cable before doing any work on or near the alternator. Take the belt from the generator, then pop the cap over the B+ terminal off, followed by removing the nut attached to the B+ terminal at the rear. Thereafter, push on the connector tab at the back of the generator to unplug the field wire. Unscrew the vehicle's rear and front mounting bolts to remove the generator. Set the generator against the engine and bolt it on in the horizontal position with 40 ft. lbs. and in the vertical position with 40 ft. lbs. Attach the field wire connector to the back of the generator, then mount the B+ terminal eyelet to the generator output stud, tighten the nut to 108 in. lbs. Carefully route the generator drive belt so it does not damage the belt and prevents the water pump from spinning in the wrong way which can cause the engine to overheat. Erase the "U" television badge.
