2006 Dodge Grand Caravan Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Shock Absorber on 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: First, lift and support the vehicle and then put two jackstands at the outermost part of the rear axle to support it. In case the lower bolt bends upward while removing the axle, lift up the support jack to raise the axle; if it bends down, lower the axle slightly. Completely loosen the lower mounting bolt and suspend the shock absorber, then unbolt the upper mount at the top for removal. To disassemble the upper bushing, pull out the shock absorber and use the Receiver, Tool 8526-1, screwed into the Ball Joint Press, Special Tool C-4212F. Insert Driver, Special Tool 8526-2, into the screw-drivepiece of the Ball Joint Press. Place the tool in a bench vise to make sure it doesn't slide. Insert the shock absorber upper mounting eye into the Receiver, with the notch free from contact with the body and fully tighten the screw-drive until the Driver is touching the bushing evenly and it is pressed out all the way into the Receiver. Turn off the screw-drive and take out the bushing. To assemble, secure the Receiver and Driver as before and then slip the bushing behind the upper mounting eye on the shock absorber. Gently screw down the driver until all the parts are aligned and push the bushing into the eye of the leg until the driver cannot go any further. Detach the shock absorber and then reinstall it on your vehicle. While installing the shock, set it against the frame rail, put in the top bolt and bolt the shock to the axle from the bottom. Take the support jack off and lower the vehicle, then snug each of the upper and lower mounting bolts to 88 Nm (65 ft. lbs.).
