2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Thermostat Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain the Thermostat for a 3.7L/4.7L Engine on 2006 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: For a service of your thermostat on a 3.7L/4.7L engine, disconnect the negative battery cable and drain the coolant into a clean container that can be used again if the fluid is not dirty. Support and raise the vehicle and then remove the splash shield. After that, loosen the lower radiator hose clamp and pull the lower radiator hose from the thermostat housing. Remove the bolts that hold the thermostat housing into place, the housing and finally the thermostat. Carefully clean the mating areas of the timing chain cover and the thermostat housing before putting in the spring-side down of the new thermostat into the groove made in the cover. Position the thermostat housing on the timing chain cover and connect it with the housing-to-timing chain cover bolts, fastening them to 13 Nm (112 inch lbs.) to make sure the housing and the thermostat are level and centered or else you might have cracks or leaks. Put the lower radiator hose back onto the thermostat housing, replace the splash shield, lift the car, fill up the cooling system, connect the negative battery cable again and run the engine while monitoring for leaks.
