2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Starter Motor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair a Starter Motor on 2006 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: When serving and repairing the starter motor, first unhook the negative battery cable and raise the vehicle so that it can be safely supported. Should the vehicle come with 4WD and specific types of transmissions, start by removing both of the support bracket bolts and then pry the bracket a little to reach the lower starter bolt below. After that, remove two mounting bolts and push the starter motor forward towards the front, making sure the starter pinion housing clears the surrounding housing and not letting the starter motor hang by its wires. Drop the starter motor slightly down and lower the nut beneath the battery positive cable wire harness connector to the stud, so you can remove it and pull the connector eyelet off the terminal. Remove the battery positive wire connector from the solenoid terminal connector on the receptacle and disconnect the starter motor. To get the solenoid working, link the solenoid wire to the starter motor, put the battery cable onto the solenoid stud and attach and tighten the eyelet nut on the battery cable per Torque Specifications, except to avoid the starter motor hanging from the wire harness. Place the starter motor on the engine, slide the tube bracket for the cooler in place only if you have an automatic transmission and secure and tighten both bolts to the specifications found in your Torque Specifications. Now, set the vehicle back on the ground and attach the negative battery cable.
