2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Water Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Water Pump on a 5.7L Engine on 2006 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: Before servicing or repairing the water pump on a 5.7L engine, take off the negative battery cable and remove the coolant. Lift the serpentine belt, take out the fan clutch assembly, move the coolant to waste and disconnect the washer bottle hose. After that, remove the fan shroud assembly, A/C compressor, generator brace, idler pulleys and belt tensioner assembly. Eliminate both radiator hoses, plus the heater hoses and then remove the water pump by taking out its mounting hardware. Gently clean the area at the gasket mating surface to keep it undamaged. Check if the housing of the water pump is cracked, there are leaks from the shaft seal, if the bearings are worn or if the impeller touches the pump body or timing chain case/cover. After you have installed the water pump, tighten its mounting bolts to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Fit the upper and lower radiator hoses, heater hoses, belt tensioner assembly and idler pulleys on the engine. Attach the compressor and alternator brace again and tighten its bolts/nuts to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) next and attach the fan shroud assembly afterward. Assemble the wiring from the washer bottle, the hose and make sure to install the coolant fill bottle and fan clutch assembly. Mount the serpentine belt in place, repair the negative battery cable, refill the coolant and check the pressure of the coolant system.
