2006 Dodge Stratus Muffler Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Muffler System on 2006 Dodge Stratus?
A: The first step in servicing or repairing the muffler pipe assembly is to wait until the exhaust system has cooled; it is generally very hot near the catalytic converter. Before removing the part, jack up the vehicle, then cover the band clamp with penetrating oil. Undo the muffler's ground strap and release the band clamp holding the muffler/pipe assembly. You should remove the rubber isolators with your hands and if they are stuck, use soapy water or silicone spray rather than petroleum-based lubricant, to avoid damaging any parts. Tape off the support isolators from the muffler supports and separate the muffler/pipe from the resonator pipe. Should a band clamp need to be changed, grind away the spot weld from the exhaust pipe. Whenever changing any component in your exhaust, always replace it with original equipment or similar parts, as this will result in the least noise, proper fit and the highest performance. Attach the muffler/pipe assembly loosely to the resonator pipe, secure the support isolators to the support mounting part of the muffler, then align the assembly so it doesn't interfere with the underbody and each support isolator has equal pressure. With the engine off, tighten the band clamp to 54 Nm and put the muffler's ground strap back on. Then, lower the vehicle, start it and check for any exhaust leaks, making repairs when you find them. Also, ensure the exhaust is clear of body panels and modify it when required.
