Start by making sure the entire exhaust system has cooled down, mainly around the area of the
Catalytic Converter, because these parts are very hot. Place the car or truck on hoist, then use penetrating oil on the band clamp of what you're removing. Take the ground strap off the muffler and undo the clamp on the muffler/pipe assembly. With care, lift the rubber parts out, using either soap and water or silicone-based spray, but avoid petroleum-based lubricants that might harm the part. Pull the support isolators off the muffler supports and free the muffler/pipe assembly from the resonator pipe. If a band clamp becomes damaged, grind off the fastenings that tie it to the
Exhaust Pipe. Choose original equipment parts or their identical replacements when you put in a new exhaust component to prevent misalignment, unwanted noise and maintain proper pressure in the exhaust. When installing, start at the front of the exhaust system, slide the muffler/pipe assembly onto the resonator pipe and connect the support isolators to the muffler supports. Check that the assembly meets the underbody clearance standards, all isolators carry the same load and clamp the band tight at 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Afterwards, fasten the ground strap back to the muffler and lower the car.
