2006 Dodge Stratus Tie Rod End Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Tie Rod End on 2006 Dodge Stratus?
A: For tie rod outer repairs and service, pump up the car and get rid of the wheel and its tire. Start by unscrewing and removing the jam nut from inside the tie rods, then attach a socket to the tie rod's stud and hold the stud while loosening and taking out the nut attaching the outer tie rod to the knuckle with a wrench. Adjust the Remover, Special Tool C-3894-A to pry off the tie rod stud from the steering knuckle, next proceed to unthread the outer tie rod from the inner one. Wrap the outer tie rod over the inner tie rod, being sure the jam nut is already facing outward on the inner tie rod while you perform this step, but again, do not tighten the jam nut while installing the outer rod. Directly after you put the tie rod end seal boot heat shield on the tie rod end, push the outer tie rod into the steering knuckle and attach the other attaching nut onto the tie rod stud. With the tie rod stud still, hold the crowfoot on your torque wrench on the nut and tighten it to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Don't twist the gear boot while you tighten the tie rod nut to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.) torque. Following the removal, reinstall the wheel and tire set, tighten the nuts in order, ensuring each is tight to 135 Nm or 100 ft. lbs., lower the car and change the front wheel alignment toe setting.
