How to Service and Repair a Rear Axle Using a Differential Cover on 2006 Jeep Commander?

Lift the vehicle on a hoist with it in neutral before working on the rear axle C213RE differential cover. After you have unscrewed the fill plug, unbolt the differential cover and let all the fluid drain out. Make sure to put a 6.35 mm (1/4 inch) bead of Mopar Gear Sealant RTV Silicone Rubber Adhesive MS-GF44D or a comparable sealant around the edge of the cover. You should place the housing cover within 3 to 5 minutes or else the cover must be washed and new RTV applied to avoid leaks. With the cover secure, tighten the cover bolts one after the other like an X, stopping at 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). Following this, bearings can be reinstalled and the fill plug should be inserted once the differential is full.
