2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Front Crankshaft Seal on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Start by cutting off the negative battery cable and also taking off the drive belt to the accessory. Also, getting rid of the A/C compressor fasteners and placing them safely aside, below that, you want to drain the coolant and then eliminate the upper radiator hose. Untie the electronic connector for the fan within the radiator shroud and bring out the radiator cooling fan. When that is done, unscrew the crankshaft damper bolt and insert Special Tools 8513 into the damper openings using Tool 1026. With Special Tool 8511, you can extract the crankshaft front seal. Make sure to thoroughly clean the damper bore and nose of the crankshaft before you fit the new damper or serious damage could result. Use Special Tool 8348 and 8512 to put in the crankshaft front seal, then install the vibration damper. Replace the radiator cooling fan and shroud and finally the top radiator hose. Put the A/C compressor back in place, firming the bolts by 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) and then reattach the accessory drive belt. Then, add the required coolant to the system and finally attach the negative cable to the battery.
